Qantas Frequent Flyer is Australia's most popular airline loyalty program. Discover the best credit cards to earn Qantas Points, epic sign up bonuses, the Qantas Rewards on offer and how to make the most of your card.

How do Qantas Rewards credit cards work?

Qantas Rewards credit cards let you earn Qantas Rewards points every time you make an eligible purchase.

You need to have a Qantas Frequent Flyer account to link to the card but you don’t need to be a “frequent flyer” to enjoy rewards. There are hundreds of fantastic ways to redeem your points from electronics to day spas and gourmet dining experiences, in addition to flight-related rewards.

These credit cards aren’t issued by Qantas but by the banks or financial institutions that partner with Qantas. This means the interest rate, fees and any other conditions related to the use of the card (not the points) are set by the card issuer.

What are the different types of Qantas Credit Cards that earn points?

There’s a Qantas Credit Card everyone can benefit from - even if you’re not a frequent flyer!

Bonus Reward and Frequent Flyer Points

Bonus point cards have high sign-up bonuses and points come in the form of reward points or frequent flyer points. Sometimes just signing up could land you 150,000 or more bonus points.

Make your best card choice: What to think about when comparing cards

Keep these important factors in mind when selecting your Qantas Rewards Card to make the best choice for your lifestyle and financial goals.

Interest rate

Did you know 57% of people don’t pay attention to their credit card interest rate?
Understanding the amount of interest you’ll be charged plays a key role in making a money-smart card choice.

To make the most of your card benefits, always pay the outstanding balance in full by the due date to avoid paying interest. If you’re accruing interest on a month to month basis it will negate the benefits of earning rewards points.

In general, Qantas Rewards cards do carry higher interest rates and don’t offer low-rate card options in the market. If you’re paying a high amount of interest each month - essentially cancelling out any benefits - a smarter option would be switching to a low-rate card not affiliated with the Qantas Rewards program.

Annual fee

In general, the more benefits a card offers, the higher the annual fee.

If you can take full advantage of the bonuses, a higher annual fee can be totally worth it. Don’t think you’d make the most of all the benefits? A card with a lower annual fee may be a better fit.

Points earned and bonus introductory offers

Check out how many points you can earn per dollar spent and compare those cards offering big point sign-up bonuses too.

Does it fit your lifestyle?

To get the most out of your Qantas Rewards Card you need to be using it on point-earning purchases frequently.

Choose a card that fits your regular spending habits. If you spend more money buying groceries than say travel-related purchases, opt for a card that rewards you for “everyday” purchases.

Balance transfer

A balance transfer might be an option if you’re carrying a larger balance on your current cards and have plans to pay it off ASAP. You’ll get the benefit of a low / zero interest introductory period plus rewards. Winning!

Other fees

Check out any other costs related to using the card, like cash advance withdrawal fees.

There are hundreds of ways to redeem Qantas points - not just in the air!

Flight-related rewards

Qantas Points can take you to over 1,200 destinations around the globe on eligible flights with Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld® alliance and other airline partners and affiliates.

You can use your points or Points Plus Pay to book a seat on a Qantas flight, Jetstar flight and selected partner airlines. Or, travel in style and use your points to score an upgrade.

Non-flight rewards

Shopping

Treat yourself to stylish Samsonite luggage, luxury homewares, or gift vouchers with major retailers. Choose from over 8,000 products across electronics, clothing and more.

Experiences and entertainment

Turn up the self-care with an Enota spa day, book a gourmet winery tour or take the family to a Hoyts movie night. Redeeming your points for a local experience is a great way to enjoy the benefits of your Qantas Rewards card closer to home.

Food and wine

Let your points take you to dinner with over 60 award-winning restaurants to choose from including Saké, Fratelli Fresh, and Burger Project. Or, select wine from some of Australia’s leading producers at Qantas Wine. Cheers to that!

Accommodation and car hire

From luxury escapes and chill weekends away to room upgrades and car hire you can use your points at hotel groups including Radisson, Accor, Hilton and more.

Perks you’ll love with Qantas Rewards cards

Depending on the card you choose, you may get access to different perks including flight vouchers, airport lounge access, discounted shopping, and complimentary travel insurance.

Easy ways to boost your points balance

Here’s how you can turn your card into a point-earning superpower.

Take advantage of sign up deals

Look for limited time offers that give big bonus points just for signing up. Check out the latest sign up offers for Qantas Rewards cards in the “Bonus Points and Frequent Flyer Points” section we mentioned earlier.

Use your card for as many purchases as possible

Even small purchases add up, $20 on petrol here and $30 on groceries there. Try to use your card for as many eligible everyday purchases as possible.

Shop the Qantas Online Mall

Earn extra points by using your card at Qantas Online Mall. Shop hundreds of products with retailers like JB Hi-Fi, Microsoft, and Myer and many more.

Pay recurring bills

Link your card to recurring payments like your gym membership or Netflix subscription to earn points on autopilot. Just check the payments are eligible for points.

Use your card for Airbnb

That’s right! You can even earn Qantas Points with selected Airbnb bookings.

How to redeem points and check your balance

Your credit card is linked to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account and points are automatically updated there. Login to your Qantas account to check the balance.

Redeeming points

Non-flight related rewards: Redeem online at the Qantas Store.
Flight-related Points Plus Pay or upgrades: Redeem at the time of booking via the Qantas website. Learn more about booking Points Plus Pay flights here.

What are eligible purchases?

Check your credit card providers T&Cs to understand what types of purchases are eligible to earn points. These may vary between providers but, generally speaking, most “everyday” purchases earn you points like grocery shopping, retail purchases, eating out and even paying bills.

Transactions that don’t earn you points include cash advances, balance transfers, interest charges, refunds, chargebacks, credit card fees, BPay, or any transactions which are subsequently refunded or disputed.

What you need to know about points expiry

To ensure you keep your Qantas Points from expiring you'll need to earn or use Qantas Points through your account at least once every 18 months.

Important conditions

It’s important to check the conditions of your Qantas Point earning credit card and also the conditions related to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account which include use of the card, benefits, termination or suspension of membership, earning Qantas Points, and more.
