Paying for a holiday with carefully accumulated frequent flyer points is extremely satisfying. After all, the only thing better than a trip away is a great deal on it!

Thanks to the rewards you can enjoy from frequent flyer credit cards, the situation gets even better, too. For example, take advantage of benefits such as complimentary free lounge access at airports to wait for flights in comfort.

A frequent flyer card is a fantastic option if you want rewards in the form of free or discounted flights and other travel-related perks. If you’re someone who is away a lot, this card type is a no-brainer, as it helps you speed up your points tally immensely.

Note, though, that these frequent flyer products work best when you pay off your credit card balance each month. That way, you avoid interest fees and maximise value, instead of finding rewards get outweighed by charges.

When you’re ready to obtain a new card, deciding between and comparing frequent flyer credit cards can be challenging and time-consuming. There are plenty of options on the market, and all the information is often overwhelming.

To help you out and ensure you find the best deal for your needs, we’ve compiled a list of the best frequent flyer credit cards in Australia right now.

ANZ Frequent Flyer Black

  • Bonus Points: 130,000 Qantas points & $250 cashback bonus.

  • Points Per Spend: 1 Qantas point per $1 spent up to $7,500, then 0.50 Qantas points after that. Earn an extra 1 point for money spent on Qantas products or services.

  • Annual Fee: $425.

Why We Like It:

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card is on our list because of its superb bonus offer!

Apply for the Black card now, and you can earn a bonus of 100,000 Qantas points and $250 cashback, provided you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months after approval. Plus, you’ll get an extra 30,000 Qantas points when you keep the card for over 12 months. Be aware: this bonus offer is only available to new ANZ frequent flyer cardholders or those who have not had one in the last 12 months.

On top, build up your frequent flyer points simply by spending. Everyday purchases earn 1 Qantas point per $1 spent on eligible transactions, up to $7,500 per statement period. After you hit this limit, you’ll receive 0.5 Qantas points per $1 spent.

Earn extra points on Qantas products or services too, with 1 bonus Qantas point per $1 spent. Points are uncapped, so the sky is the limit! (Some exceptions apply to this deal, so for all the information, check out the full list of ANZ non-eligible purchases @ 23.Exceptions).

The interest rate on the card is 19.99% p.a. The annual fee is $425.

Extra Benefits:

The travel perks don’t stop at the above offers. Cardholders also enjoy 2 complimentary passes each year to Qantas Club lounges or Qantas-operated International Business lounges. New Qantas Club members can have their joining fee waived, too, and pay a discounted first- year membership cost, equating to a significant $497 discount.

In addition, people with the Frequent Flyer Black card gain access to Exclusives ANZ and VISA Entertainment programs. As a member, enjoy exclusive invitations to events in entertainment and lifestyle categories.

Then, if you need assistance with booking or planning any of your outings, simply utilise the 24/7 concierge services standing by for your call. This feature is particularly handy when you’re travelling and wish to find and book the best local events.

Of course, no frequent flyer card would be worth its salt without travel insurance, either. The Black card comes with included overseas travel and medical insurance, along with interstate flight convenience insurance and rental excess cover.

When you shop, whether at home or when travelling, eligible purchases on the card are covered by extended warranty, too. Plus, you get to take advantage of a best price guarantee and handy 90-day purchase protection.

Income Eligibility:

No set minimum income is required, but the minimum credit limit on this card is $15,000.
